About the role
Permanent role at the front edge of payments: research and experiment with emerging technology, then turn what survives contact with reality into a designed, priced, buildable service. Part research, part architecture, part commercial judgment - and the last part is what makes it hard.
Key responsibilities
- Research and experiment with emerging technologies, tools and services relevant to payments and settlement
- Turn promising experiments into solution designs that an engineering team can build
- Advise on the functional, technical and commercial design of new products and services, including pricing
- Assess market trends, practices and available solutions across payments, trading, clearing, settlement and liquidity management
- Build and present demonstrators, then analyse honestly what they did and did not prove
- Contribute to harmonisation and standardisation work in payments and securities
- Support the design and assessment of policy and oversight frameworks, including how they are operationalised
- Deliver quantitative analysis of transaction data to support design and pricing decisions
- Advise on artificial intelligence adoption where it genuinely improves a payment service

Your profile
- Payments, trading, clearing, settlement or liquidity management, with real depth in at least one
- Solution design: moving from a research idea to an architecture someone can implement
- Quantitative analysis of transaction data, and the tooling to do it (SQL, Python or equivalent)
- Product and service design including pricing models and business case construction
- Working knowledge of payment standards and the direction of regulation in the euro area
- Applied AI and machine learning, with the judgment to know when not to use it
- Able to present to both engineers and executives without changing the substance
Qualifications
- 5+ years in payments, market infrastructure or financial technology consulting
- Demonstrable examples of taking an idea from research through to a designed, costed service
- Degree in computer science, economics, mathematics, business informatics or comparable
- Fluent business English; German is a strong advantage
