Do I need previous testing experience? ▼
Yes, ideally you should have formal testing experience or a previous testing role. The Foundation Level starts with basics: terminology, roles, and test processes. However, you should be comfortable working with software and have a basic understanding of how software is developed in projects.
How long does the training take? ▼
The official ISTQB guideline expects around 19 hours of instruction for Foundation Level. In the 4-day variant, this is delivered as intensive training. In the 10-sprint self-study path, it's distributed over shorter units. Plan 2-4 weeks from course start to exam, depending on your format and study speed.
What is the exam structure? ▼
The Foundation Level exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions with a 60-minute duration (plus extra time in some languages). You need at least 65% of points (26 correct answers) to pass and receive the ISTQB Foundation Level certificate.
